Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones didn’t see any action in today’s 17-14 loss to Michigan State. Fans in Columbus will never get another chance to see him don the scarlet and gray in Ohio Stadium, if his post-game tweet is to be believed.
“Last time walking down them steps and into The Shoe, wish the results were different tho,” the backup posted mere minutes after the Buckeyes sustained their first loss of the year.
Jones is a junior so that seems to suggest he’s either going to declare for the NFL or transfer to another school. One of those seems more logical than the other.
The timing of such an announcement — if that’s what it is — will likely raise a few eyebrows. Ohio State still has a fairly important rivalry game with Michigan looming next weekend. And they can still win the Big Ten with a victory and a Michigan State loss.
Of course, with hindsight, it’s fairly clear Jones should have turned pro after leading the Buckeyes to a national title last year, when his stock was at its apex.
That said, a depressing day in Ohio just became even gloomier.
