Walter Thurmond, who played safety for the Eagles last season, retired earlier this offseason. Today, a truly hilarious story emerged of his time in Philadelphia when a reader tipped off Crossing Broad that a mysterious local softball player named Dick Mahoney might have been Thurmond.
Mahoney was brought onto the Bishop’s Collar softball team based on recommendations of a friend of a friend, and proceeded to hit 7 home runs in the first 2 games.
The reader who discovered the connection was told that Mahoney left the team because he was moving to LA to pursue a filmmaking career, which matches with what Thurmond said upon retirement.
Then, Thurmond’s girlfriend posted this:
