new VP Arturas Karnisovas takes first step in undoing years of GarPax damage
Delightfully unexpected news this morning! Jim Boylen is OUT!
Just days after I thought Arturas Karnisovas couldn’t get any dumber, he does something like this...AND TOTALLY REDEEMS HIMSELF.
The Bulls officially announced the news, with quotes from Karnisovas and the Reinsdorf lad including care-factor and that whole bullshit.
Here was Karnisovas’s statement on the actual decision:
After doing a comprehensive evaluation and giving the process the time it deserved, I ultimately decided that a fresh approach and evolution in leadership was necessary. This was a very difficult decision, but it is time for our franchise to take that next step as we move in a new direction and era of Chicago Bulls basketball.
This is still completely wrong, you can try to think what changed between now and 9 weeks ago when it came to the ‘needed evaluation’, and if Karnisovas was merely lying then or there’s a changed circumstance of no loser-bubble this fall...
but it’s not of great concern. What’s important is that Boylen is indeed out before he could inflict damage on this offseason, and that the Bulls won’t go into next year with a pathetic ‘long-play’ mindset led by the known-to-be worst coach in the league. And timing-wise, luckily the already-completed coaching search elsewhere in the league didn’t take a plausible candidate off the table.
And as for Boylen, he conned his way into the job and extension, was terrible at his job and acted like a jerk while doing it. He will not be missed, except for acknowledging that his empowerment was such a terrible misfire by John Paxson that it finally got someone new at the controls. It’s a tremendous upgrade for this front office if they’re merely being normal, and making such an obvious move by this time is bare minimum competency, a level we haven’t known as Bulls fans for many years.
