Chicago Bulls sign Ryan Arcidiacono to a two-way deal

The former Villanova point guard played for Bulls in Summer League

According to reports by Sportando and Sean Highkin of the Athletic, the Bulls have signed point guard Ryan Arcidiacono to a one-year, two-way deal.

With the introduction of two-way contracts, the NBA has given teams more of an incentive to sign fringe players. By signing these contracts, the hope is the players can develop in the G-League and contribute to the parent team in due time. Two-way contracts are very new and if you don’t exactly know how they work, here is a good guide from Chris Reichart of the NBA G-League site, 2Ways10Days.

The Chicago Bulls had already gotten started in signing players to those contracts, signing Summer League standout Antonio Blakeney two weeks ago to a two-year pact.

Arcidiacono went undrafted out of Villanova in 2016 and signed with the San Antonio Spurs to play on their Summer League team. He made it all the way until the pre-season, but was placed on waivers after three pre-season games.

Luckily for Arcidiacono, he found a home with the Austin Spurs, the G-League affiliate for San Antonio. While playing in Austin for 34 games, Arcidiacono played decently, averaging 6.4 points and also shot 42% from three-point land.

Arcidiacono was most recently on the Bulls Summer League team, playing in 5 games and averaging 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds while shooting 41.7% from the field. Now he has a chance to prove himself on the Windy City Bulls. Given Chicago’s point guard situation, he could be of some use if called up. He’s not the most athletic point guard but can hold his own at the point guard spot and run an offense.

The ideal situation in terms of this deal is he develops into a player who in the future can give the Bulls useful minutes off the bench. Chicago should be open to all options when it comes to the point guard position and now have another option in Ryan Arcidiacono.
