Bulls Claim David Nwaba

Nwaba was waived by the Lakers recently

Gar Forman out here, throwin’ darts!

Nwaba, a 6’4” shooting guard, was just waived by the Lakers so they could have the requisite cap room to sign Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

A 4-year college player who will turn 25 in January, Nwaba played 20 games for the Lakers last year and 40 for their G-League affiliate. Our G-League blog Ridiculous Upside held him in high regard:

Good move from the Bulls. Nwaba stood as arguably the best help defender in the G League. Can also dunk with the best of them...seems like that kind of player that will have a role in the NBA where he plays hard-nosed D and attacks the rim in like 15-20 MPG.

So basically... the Bulls just got Celtics-era Tony Allen. All they need to get is their version of KG, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.

This was a waiver claim so the Bulls take on his remaining contract, an NBA one on the roster not the 2-way variety they used to sign Antonio Blakeney earlier today. Per Basketball insiders, it’s for the minimum ($1.3m), with a guarantee date of 1/10/18, so he can be cut again without cap consequence at any point before that date. And as an over-the-cap team, Nwaba’s deal could be used in a trade where the receiving team would then cut the salary.

Maybe the Bulls have realized they have roster spots to spare.
