breaking injury news for Rajon Rondo and the Bulls
Was not expecting this on the morning of Game Three: The Bulls announcing that Rajon Rondo is ‘out indefinitely’ with a broken right thumb. All the Bulls will say at the moment is that it happened some time during game 2 and that surgery is not required.
Never thought we’d be saying this in 2017, but Rondo has been crucial for the Bulls great play these playoffs. He’s shown a renewed vigor defensively, and been attacking the Celtics defense with ease on offense even while not hitting his outside shots. He’s also done unmeasurably well leading the team on and off the court in a revenge series against his old team. At least he can remain on the bench and still bark out all the Celtics plays, but his on-court presence will be missed.
‘Out indefinitely’ likely means he’s out for tonight’s game 3 (hey, this is the Bulls we’re talking about, Luol Deng was once day-to-day with near-death). Jerian Grant is the likely starter at PG and Michael Carter-Williams becomes the backup. Both were awful in Game 2, though Grant had a decent series opener.
