Bulls vs. Celtics Game 3 final score: Chicago lays an egg in wake of Rondo injury

Jimmy Butler played one of his worst games in a while, and the series is 2-1

In the wake of the Rajon Rondo injury, I kind of expected the Bulls to struggle a bit in Game 3 against the Celtics. I didn’t think it’d be as bad as it was.

The Bulls got out to an absolutely atrocious start, and while they made a big run in the second quarter to get back into it, they promptly fell apart in the second half. The series is now 2-1 in favor of Chicago after the 104-87 loss.

Jimmy Butler played one of his worst games in a while. He finished with 14 points on 7-of-21 shooting, but he started 1-of-12 and his shot selection was atrocious. He rarely looked to attack the rim, and he didn’t record a single assist. The Bulls had just 14 assists on the night.

Dwyane Wade started strong but finished 6-of-18 from the field. The point guard duo of Jerian Grant and Michael Carter-Williams was embarrassing. The Bulls probably have to think about going with no-PG lineups for a good portion of Game 4. Grant and MCW are just that bad.

Meanwhile, the Celtics made 17 triples as they made some nice adjustments. Brad Stevens went small with Gerald Green in the starting lineup, spreading the Bulls out and getting great looks throughout. Even when the Bulls went on their run, part of it was due to Boston missing a ton of open 3s. Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford also had a lot of success in the pick-and-roll.

The Bulls just need to shake this off and come back strong in Game 4 on Sunday. Full recap to come.
