WWE Money in the Bank Odds: Dean Ambrose Overtakes Kevin Owens as HEAVY Favorite

WWE’s Money in the Bank event, where six men compete in a ladder match for a suitcase which the winner can cash in for a title shot at any time, takes place this evening in Las Vegas. Earlier this week, Kevin Owens was a -130 (bet $130 to win $100) favorite to win the match, while Dean Ambrose was 5-2 (bet $20 to win $50). The odds have shifted dramatically in Ambrose’s favor.

Here are the current odds on the match, courtesy of Jason Simbal from the Vegas sportsbook CG Technology:

Dean Ambrose: -1500
Kevin Owens: 9-1
Chris Jericho: 50-1
Cesaro: 100-1
Sami Zayn: 125-1
Alberto Del Rio: 125-1

At the online book 5Dimes, Ambrose has climbed all the way up to -2000 as of publishing time. You can get 10-1 betting on the field versus him. The lines have also moved dramatically on the main event; previously Roman Reigns was a big favorite, now Seth Rollins is.

The angle here, which was alluded to on Raw this week, is that Ambrose would then be liable to affect tonight’s main event, featuring his former Shield teammates Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. (Presumably this angle would extend through SummerSlam, which is WWE’s second* biggest event of the year, in August.)

Major line moves like this are generally driven by sophisticated bettors; whenever this happens in WWE, the logical conclusion is that the writers have in one way or another let the cat out of the bag.

In WWE, sometimes PPV events are telegraphed by gambling lines. For example, Triple H was the odds-on favorite to win this past Royal Rumble. However, sometimes heavy underdogs come in. Before WrestleMania 30, Brock Lesnar was a 9-1 underdog and Undertaker a 30-1 favorite. While there was a huge vig built in here, Vegas was generally indicating there was about a 1 in 20 chance Lesnar would win.

Vince McMahon has the final say over everything. The plan right this second could be for Ambrose to win the briefcase, and then Vince could swerve it right before or even during the match. Nevertheless, this line movement suggests it’s far more likely than not that Ambrose emerges victorious in that match.

*SummerSlam and Royal Rumble are probably 2 and 2a
