Siete a Cero: Mexico Annihilated 7-0 By Chile At Copa America

Mexico looked destined for the final at Copa America. Their tournament ended, in abrupt, horrible fashion. Chile crushed them 7-0 on de facto home soil. Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas scored four of them.

This is international soccer’s most emphatic, shocking defeat since Germany beating Brazil 7-1 at the 2014 World Cup. It may be Mexico’s worst competitive loss ever, definitely the worst since losing 6-0 to West Germany in the 1978 World Cup.

Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio entered this match with a 9-0-1 record in charge. Though, the fallout from this defeat could get interesting. Unscathed? Rafa Marquez, who was left out of the starting XI after leaving camp for the birth of his son.

UPDATE: U.S. Soccer twitter off the top rope!

1-0: Edson Puch (16th)

2-0: Eduardo Vargas (44th)

3-0: Alexis Sanchez (49th)
