Mike Francesa sees a flashback on SNY from last year about Zack Wheeler’s torn ligament; reports it as breaking newshttps://t.co/ZWHP9Tom6d

Mike Francesa saw an SNY injury report that Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler had torn his UCL flash by his screen, and immediately passed it along to his listeners. This type of circumstance is not altogether uncommon for Francesa, except that the report was from last year. There was some confusion because Wheeler was shut down for elbow discomfort this week, and Francesa and his producer spent about five minutes debating about whether the SNY report was new or old.
Now, while this clip is certainly amusing, it’s not necessarily an indictment on Francesa, who does nearly 30 hours of live radio per week. If he’s going to be reacting to breaking news in real-time, there are going to be errors like this where he’s speaking at the same time he’s trying to distill information from a muted television. Nevertheless, the caller chiding him about all this at the end is a nice kicker for the clip.
