Credit to the Bulls for blowing away a substandard opponent. This win over the Sixers tonight is now the Bulls 3rd victory of more than 10 points, the others being against the Nets and...the Sixers. Hey, the 115-96 margin counts as much in the point differential column as a bad Hornets loss!
It took a half to get going though, as the Bulls found themselves down 5 after giving up a 37 point quarter to Philadelphia. But unlike Philly, the Bulls are ostensibly trying to win games, so they promptly took over with a 34-12 3rd quarter to 'come back' and then put the game out of reach. So much so that even Bobby Portis got in the game just after the 5 minute mark, and got 7 points on 3-4 shooting. Cameron Bairstow played too, but who cares about him.
As for the regulars, Jimmy Butler was the Bulls only first half scorer of note, going 6/7 in the first quarter and finishing the game with 23 points on 8/14 shooting, breaking out of his very brief shooting slump. Tony Snell had 16 points (and played a team-high 36 minutes), helped by going 5-6 from the line. Mirotic shot 5-8 from three, a rare solid shooting home game from him. Joakim Noah kept up his good play with another 3-category line, this time 15 rebounds and 8 assists to go with his 5 points (in only 22 minutes).
Chicago guy Jahlil Okafor had 22 for the Sixers, who aren't trying to win games. One of their few other NBA players, Nerlens Noel, sat out. The process sucks, as it was designed. And as such, the exhibition nature of the opponent shouldn't worry anybody that Derrick Rose took 3 shots in over 26 minutes. He hit two of them! I'd coast too against Philly if I was Derrick. In fact, one could say I coasted through this recap!
Update: oooh, the illness excuse. I should've went with that.
Hoiberg says Rose and Butler both were under the weather.
