Portland Fans' Giant Eastbound & Down-Inspired Sign Will Have You Signing Up for the Timbers Army

The Portland Timbers Army is front and center for their club’s run to the MLS Cup. The team has never won the Cup, but they are up 1-0 in the conference finals after a 3-1 win over FC Dallas on Sunday. During the match, fans unveiled their latest Kenny Powers-inspired “tifo.” It was impressive in both it’s size and execution and the fact that the team’s fans committed to this bit. Apparently, this started a few weeks ago with this sign. After a quick glance, I have not located anyone on the Timbers roster named Kenny or Powers. Or anyone who looks like a goatee’d Danny McBride. So the origin of this “tifo” is likely that someone said, “We’re cup-bound!” Then someone else said, “Cup-bound and down! Like that show we watch on my parents’ HBO Go login!” Then they went to a copy shop / brewery to drink craft beer filled with locally-grown hops and eat meals created using fresh farm-to-table ingredients while this giant-ass banner was created. Then the same thing happened, but with an even bigger sign. I have no clue where they came up with Kenny Powers riding a bull. I just hope they make the Cup final so they can create a sign that has to do with fixin’s.
