Gus Malzahn has benched Auburn Tigers starting quarterback Jeremy Johnson. Sean White, a four-star recruit from the 2014 class, will start against Mississippi State. He will be taking his first collegiate snaps.
A junior, Johnson was completing less than 60 percent of his throws and had more interceptions (6) than touchdown passes (5) through three games.
Johnson was expected to be a sure thing. Multiple media members expected him to be the breakout player of 2015. File under “developments that would have shocked people four weeks ago.”
