WCWS: Florida holds on to take Game 1

Briana Little, Lauren HaegerOKLAHOMA CITY – Lauren Haeger provided the offense, as she often does, and the Florida pitching did just enough to hold on as the Gators defeated Michigan 3-2 on Monday night to take the first game of the best-of-three championship at the Women’s College World Series.

Haeger had a two-run home run in the first inning to put Florida ahead before adding an RBI single in the third that proved to be the difference.

Michigan cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth leaving the tying run stranded at third in the seventh.

Tomorrow night, Florida will try to become the first team to win back-to-back softball titles since Arizona’s 2006 and 2007 squads.

Westwood One will bring you live coverage of the second game of the best-of-three championship series, with Kevin Kugler and Leah O’Brien-Amico on the call, Tuesday at 7:45 PM Eastern.
