Finally some good news for the "Legion of Boom" secondary.
Shortly after the conclusion of Super Bowl XLIX, reports surfaced that Seattle Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman would require Tommy John surgery on his injured elbow. Seattle head coach Pete Carroll later said he "might have been mislead" about the necessity for Tommy John surgery. Now a little more than one week after the team's heartbreaking loss to the New England Patriots, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reports Sherman will not undergo elbow surgery.
Sherman's injury dates back to the NFC title game when he collided with teammate Kam Chancellor on a tackle. The impact tore ligaments in the ulnar ligament in his elbow, a condition that often requires surgery to heal correctly. Apparently, whether because of the severity of the tear or because of his limited throwing demands, Sherman has avoided surgery altogether.
While the news is good for Sherman, other members of the "Legion of Boom" secondary aren't so lucky. Free safety Earl Thomas will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum. Fellow safety Kam Chancellor played through a knee injury that too may require him to go under the knife. And, of course, Jeremy Lane broke his arm after intercepting a pass during the Super Bowl.
