Jeb Burton jumps to Sprint Cup, signs with BK Racing

Burton will run the entirety of Sprint Cup schedule and challenge for Rookie of the Year.

Two weeks ago Jeb Burton found himself facing the distinct possibility of not having a ride for the coming season. On Monday, BK Racing named Burton to drive one its cars full-time in the Sprint Cup Series.

Burton signed a three-year contract and will behind the wheel of the No. 26 Toyota this season. Dr. Pepper and Maxim magazine's fantasy sports app will serve as primary sponsors throughout the year. The 22-year-old son of 2002 Daytona 500 Ward Burton will compete for Rookie of the Year honors.

Burton drove for ThorSport Racing in the Camping World Truck Series last season, but funding couldn't be found for this season. He has never competed in the Cup Series.

BK Racing fielded cars for a pair of rookies in 2014, however each has moved on. Alex Bowman joined Tommy Baldwin Racing, while Cole Whitt went to Front Row Motorsports. Wanting a young driver to build around and who would want to be with the organization long-term, BK Racing pursued Burton.

In addition to Burton, J.J. Yeley will drive the No. 23 BK Racing car full-time this year. Johnny Sauter will drive the No. 83 car in the Daytona 500.
