Eden Hazard extends Chelsea contract

The Belgian winger has committed himself to the London club for the foreseeable future.

Good news, Chelsea fans! Bad news, defenders of the Premier League! Eden Hazard, all-round attacking terror, has signed a new five-and-a-half year deal with the club, taking him in theory all the way to the end of the 2019-20 season.

Speaking to the club's website, Hazard said all the appropriate things in the appropriate fashion:

I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. Since I came here in 2012 I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me. The manager has helped me improve a lot, the fans have been fantastic and I have an amazing understanding with my teammates. I always try to give pleasure to the supporters with my style of play and it is nice to know they appreciate my work.

Since arriving from Lille for the 2012-13 season, Hazard has made 147 appearances for Chelsea and scored 44 goals, picked up a Europa League winner's medal, and established himself as one of the best attacking players in the world. Still only 24, his best years are surely yet to come; now we know that, transfer market allowing, they'll come at Stamford Bridge
