Garnett will miss the Nets' game against the Grizzlies on Wednesday.
Kevin Garnett has been suspended one game for head-butting Dwight Howard during an altercation in the first quarter of Monday night's game between the Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets, the NBA announced Tuesday.
Howard has been fined $15,000 for his role in the scrum.
The tussle occurred just over four minutes into the Rockets' 113-99 victory. It began when the two big men got tangled up as Howard tried to catch a pass in the paint. After a foul was called on Garnett, the Nets big man gave Howard a little shove, and Howard hit Garnett across the chest.
Garnett responded by throwing the ball at Howard, getting up in his face and head-butting him. Garnett also pushed Howard, which was followed by Howard slapping Garnett in the neck. The players had to be separated and security even came out on the court.
After the officials sorted everything out, Garnett was ejected and Howard was hit with a technical foul. Howard finished with only eight points and five rebounds in 28 minutes, but it didn't matter against the struggling Nets.
Brooklyn has lost six games in a row and will be without Garnett for its game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
