Paul Ryan Waves Terrible Towel, Predicts Steelers-Packers Super Bowl

The Republican National Convention kicked off today and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan wasted no time making a bold prediction about an important issue facing this country: which two teams will play in the next Super Bowl.

Ryan waved a Terrible Towel before predicting the Pittsburgh Steelers will face his Green Bay Packers for the Lombardi Trophy.

Proudly sporting black and yellow in Ohio will surely upset some Cleveland Browns fans sick of hearing about their more successful AFC North rivals. On its face it seems like a bad political move, but Ryan sounds like a person who has done the math.

“I want to win this election so darn bad that I’m willing to do this,” he said.

Ohio is always a swing state in presidential elections. The Republicans are holding out hope they can take Pennsylvania in November.

But pandering to Pittsburgh fans could be more beneficial than placating the long-suffering Browns fanbase. Visit any major city in America and you’ll find a Steelers bar packed to the gills on football Sundays. The franchise has a far-flung support system across the nation.

With the most recent polls showing Hillary Clinton barely edging out Donald Trump, every little bit counts. Plus, there’s a full week to fete the champion Cleveland Cavaliers and surging Indians.

Politics make for strange bedfellows. Here’s hoping Trump takes the stage wearing a Tom Brady or sleeveless Justise Winslow jersey.
