If you’re an American professional athlete of any significance, it is only a matter of time before you become romantically linked with one of the Kardashian girls, whose fame derives, ultimately, from O.J. Simpson. Whether or not that tabloidable link represents anything “real” is beside the point for both the Kardashians and the tabloids, who are participants in the same game.
But a professional athlete, someone like the New York Giants’ Odell Beckham, Jr., is a player in a different game altogether. His fame and fortune derive not from fame itself, but from his skill as an entertainer (athlete) within a medium (football).
Which means that being photographed with Khloe Kardashian isn’t necessarily “good” for him, he told Complex.
Whoever was there taking the pictures inside of a private party, inside of a private-er, private-er area of the house—we were in the kitchen of the house, where there was only like 15 people. It’s just kind of like…’dating’?” he said. “I just met this person. This is maybe the second conversation we’ve had.”
Beckham and Kardashian met at Drake’s Memorial Day Party, and according to both of them, the images captured by some amateur paparazzo depict not the beginning of a rendezvous, but the kind of passing boozy flirtation that might happen at a pool party thrown by a rapper in quiet remembrance of all the lives lost in defense of liberty.
Beckham had some explaining to do when he returned.
Things go like that, and then some other girl that I may have been talking to her about it, and now it’s more drama, more commotion in my life. And I’m sitting here trying to explain my situation to somebody, and it’s really not even a situation.
Probably best to keep it that way.
