Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter was arrested for DUI after falling asleep at the wheel earlier this month. Georgia coach Kirby Smart was asked about his suspension. He felt that line of questioning was showing insufficient concern for Jonathan’s well-being.

Media tend to cover high level college football for what it is: de facto professional football. But, coaches do still deal with players on a human level. Using that responsibility sanctimoniously to deflect uncomfortable questioning is a classic Nick Saban move. Smart learned from the master.
