Henrik Stenson Wins the 145th Open Championship with Lowest Total Score in Major Championship History

Henrik Stenson, who finished as the runner-up to Phil Mickelson in 2013, won his first major at the 145th Open Championship. Stenson outlasted Phil Mickelson in a battle for the ages.

Stenson also had a chance at a record 62 had he made birdies on both 17 and 18, but his putt on 17 barely missed the cup and he tied Johnny Miller’s record 63 set in 1973 at the U.S. Open. Stenson is the first male golfer from Sweden to win a major championship.

Stenson also tied and set some other records while burning his way around Royal Troon.

Phil Mickelson, who also shot 63 this week, played absolutely spectacular golf. When he got into trouble he somehow managed to get out and finished his final round without a bogey.
