Detroit News Delivers Odd Takedown of Plaxico Burress After His Jim Harbaugh Tweet

Former Michigan State wide receiver Plaxico Burress joined the already-large contingent of people who have a problem with Michigan holding spring football practice in Florida.

Burress’ criticism was actually quite tame compared to some of his previous Twitter opinions.

It elicited the following article, originally titled “Burress takes a shot at Harbaugh, but not with illegal pistol,” from the Detroit News.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh just can’t escape the criticism.

Now it’s former Michigan State receiver and illegal pistol carrier / tax evader Plaxico Burress getting in on the act.

Responding to Harbaugh taking his team to Bradenton, Fla., for four practices over spring break, Burress wrote on Twitter: “Looks like Harbaugh is pulling out all (the) stops to get kids to Michigan. We (@MSU_Football) just believe in the product. Don’t have to sell us.”

Burress, who played at MSU in 1997-99, went on to an 11-year NFL career that included several off-field run-ins with the law. He later distinguishing himself in his post-playing days with an appearance on “Celebrity Wife Swap.”

The headline was then edited to take out the pistol reference, which is still in the URL.

Pretty strong stuff here. Almost makes some of the low blows Ty Duffy and myself have traded over the years on this site look tame.

It might be worth mentioning that Burress is not the only subject in the story with past legal issues. Or maybe just leave that part out altogether.
