Joseph Randle was once a pretty nice prospect at running back for the Dallas Cowboys. He even led the team in rushing touchdowns (four) for the 2015 season despite only playing six games. Now he’s in jail after being arrested for the third time since the team cut him back in November.
At around 8 a.m. on Sunday, Randle was taken into custody and booked on three counts of aggravated battery, one count of drug possession and one count of criminal damage. At a hearing on Wednesday the 24-year-old former fifth-round pick told a judge that he didn’t have the money to pay for a lawyer or afford the $100,000 bail set against him.
In his three NFL seasons, Randle made around $1.3 million according to Sportrac, but money runs out quickly when you’re repeatedly on the wrong side of the law. The Oklahoma State product just can’t seem to stay out of trouble.
Randle was arrested on October 13, 2014 for trying to steal men’s underwear and cologne from a Dillard’s department store in Frisco, Texas.
Last February, Randle was arrested for possession of marijuana in Wichita, Kansas. He was not booked and wound up not facing charges due to a lack of evidence.
On November 24, 2015 (just three weeks after Dallas cut him), Randle was arrested in Kansas after drunkenly assaulting two casino security guards.
On February 1, 2016 he was arrested at his home in Irving, Texas on a warrant for a speeding ticket.
This latest arrest came after Randle attempted to hit three people with his car, then tried to chase them into a home before he forced his way inside.
There is no question Randle is a talented football player but he’s been headed down the wrong path for a long time. Hopefully he can turn his life around and do something productive with it, because it’s unlikely he ever plays in the NFL again.
