Hot off their decisive victory over Toronto, the Bulls, now 28-26, look to extend their longest win streak in six weeks (2 wins) while hosting the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers (11-45), looking to break a four game losing streak, will also try to even the season record against the Bulls at a game apiece. Last time they met, Jordan Clarkson led the Lakers with 16 points and 4 assists, and Jimmy Butler lead the Bulls with 27 points (as for people who will be playing tonight, Pau had 21 points that game).
The Bulls win on Friday was in large part due to a career night by Doug McDermott, and unselfish playmaking from the Atlanta Hawks second round draft pick. Coming off the bench, McDermott racked up 30 points on 77% shooting, and was assisted on 11 of his 13 baskets (one of which was his trademark soaring dunk, which Doug looks slightly less shocked by every time now). His off-ball movement and Hoibergian confidence in his shot choice went far for him that game, and hopefully make him a more viable scoring option in the weeks to come. Behind that, Derrick Rose had 26 points from 12-20, and 6 assists, and Pau Gasol was one assist shy of a triple-double, with 18-11-9. E'Twaun Moore continued to prove himself a valuable and consistent piece in chaotic times, with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. We also got to see solid play from Cristiano Felicio (8 points on 3-3 shooting, 3 redbounds and 3 assits) and Bobby Portis (8 points, 8 rebounds, a block and an assist). A few more games like this, and it will be both fair and reasonable to let ourselves hope for this kind of play until Jimmy and Nikola are back to strengthen the line-ups. Right?
The big match-up that we got a preview of in the All-Star game will be the buddies and former teammates Kobe Bryant and Pau facing posting each other up. Byrant, despite getting his finger popped into place in his last game, will play tonight. It's brave of him, but he wouldn't allow Chicago to miss out on hearing him call for the ball and then fade away over a larger defender one last time in his last trip to the UC. Jimmy, Nikola Mirotic, and Joakim Noah are out for the Bulls (#FkGrPx), and Anthony Brown is questionable for the Lakers.
Tip-off is at 7 PM CST, and in Chicago can be seen on WGN and heard on ESPN 1000, and seen on TWSN in Los Angeles.
